SmartTerm Partners with ECJBTE to Enhance Teacher Education in the Caribbean
SmartTerm, a leading provider of educational technology solutions, is thrilled to announce a significant partnership with the Eastern Caribbean Joint Board of Teacher Education (ECJBTE). This landmark agreement was signed on May 16, 2023, at the School of Education of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cavehill Campus by Ayodele Pompey, CEO of SmartTerm, and Professor S. Joel Warrican, Chair of the ECJBTE.
Under the agreement, SmartTerm’s award-winning Learning Management System (LMS) will be made available to the teacher education entities in ten Caribbean countries that comprise the Eastern Caribbean Joint Board of Teacher Education (ECJBTE), namely Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This platform will provide the backbone for online teacher registration and the moderation and certification of final grades for students who enroll in the Associate Degree in Education programmes regulated by the ECJBTE, creating an even more unified approach to teacher education.
Ayodele Pompey, CEO of SmartTerm, commented on the partnership, “We are proud to collaborate with the ECJBTE in our shared mission to revolutionize education. Our technology will not only streamline administrative tasks but will also foster a more dynamic and interactive learning environment. It’s an exciting time for education in the Caribbean.”
The ECJBTE, as the premier certifying body for teachers in these countries, offers a two-year program leading to an Associate Degree in Education (ADE). This certification is recognized by The UWI Board of Undergraduate Studies as equivalent to Level 1 (Year 1) of the Bachelor in Education degree.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Professor S. Joel Warrican shared, “The introduction of SmartTerm’s technology is a game-changer for our institutions. This will empower our teachers, enhance our certification process, and ultimately improve the quality of education throughout our member countries. We look forward to witnessing the transformative impact of this partnership.”
The project is made possible through the support of the UWI Cave Hill – USAID Research Initiative for Supporting Education in the Caribbean (Rise Caribbean). This joint initiative is an integral part of the broader effort to strengthen education in the region.
SmartTerm remains committed to its mission of enhancing education through innovative technology. This new partnership with ECJBTE signals a significant step forward in the pursuit of this mission, as it continues to make a positive impact on the educational landscape across the Caribbean.
